SKETCHNOTE
Usability study for an educational platform for startups in India and Indonesia
We were approached by a fast growing start-up that was in the process of building an educational & support platform for first time entrepreneurs to give them information and resources related to building a startup. They had conducted research sprints in multiple countries across the globe and wanted to test their current platform in India and Indonesia - two of their key markets.
Our team worked with them to define the goals for the usability study, recruit their target user profile in both the markets and conduct the remote usability study. Through study, we were able to identify high points as well as challenges that the user were facing in the current platform and recommend design improvements.
Approach
We conducted one on one remote interviews with 10 participants from each country. The interview was focussed on testing key screens and workflows within the current platform that were identified based on hypotheses. The goal was to test for discoverability, usability and comprehension of concepts and tasks in the platform. The interviews helped us understand the low-points and high-points in the user experience across the platforms and also highlighted similarities/differences between the two markets.
“This platform takes care of your basic needs and tells you how to start as an entrepreneur. It doesn't tell you but it guides you. My only question would be if it will be customised for India?”

Deliverable
Our teams mapped the insights gained from research across the user journey of the platform, phase by phase. The visual map gave a comprehensive view of the user’s experience and feedback across different phases of the user journey within each country, along with design opportunities that our team had identified to help improve the experience. The findings were also packaged into a report that included more details along with user stories and quotes.
Impact
Through this study, we were able to uncover user insights around the current experience of the platform and help our client answer key questions like ‘what is too complicated for them to do today’, ‘how can we help the users do X more easily’.
The insights and the design recommendations helped the client in making the platform easier to use, understand and more relevant to their specific context in turn making it more user-friendly and impactful!
